It’s kind of a mixed blessing to go back and relive these old strips. I know a lot of people like to see the artistic development, but it does kind of make me cringe.

Yup, that was the original purpose for the USS Calvary. Just the kind of cliche that the original series was based on.
And here is the dramatic debut of Captain Red Bimbo! When I introduced her I had not idea how much she’d be tied to the characters and what a pivotal role she’d have in the new universe.

Little did I know when I wrote this that I’d be so tied up in Star Pirates, the online game in the future.
And in typical boot camp story, the recruit finally realizes the significant impact that the drill instructor had on their life. It’s just a little creepy that it happened while everyone was naked.

There have been a lot of B scifi movies that have featured co-ed military arrangements. But Starship Troopers is probably the most famous. So let’s call this a parody of that.
I’m sure I’ve said this before, but I always love text-less comics. There’s just something about that silence that emphasizes that slapstick effect.
And of course there has to be the traditional drill Sargent character.
This Zoie story line was kind of a combined homage to all those “you’re in the army now” kind of movies; featuring everyone from Abbott and Costello to Bill Murray. So, take your pick.
