What? And Give Up Show Business? – Act IV Scene 11
CUT TO
INT – Night, it’s a dark and empty stage. Scenery has been removed and a lone worklight sits upstage. Mark sits on the apron between the dim footlights.
MARK
It seemed appropriate to end on a William Shatner singing reference, don’t you think?
Zortic has been a huge part of my life for almost 14 years. What has driven and inspired the incredible run has been you, the readers and fans who have contributed your energy and enthusiasm at every twist and turn. There is nothing in my life that has given me more of a thrill than hearing someone come up to me and tell me that Zortic helped inspire them to take up cartooning.
In addition to the fans are the other creative artists I’ve had the honor to work with and alongside. These are some of the most talented and driven individuals I’ve ever had the privilege of knowing. The tiny handful of cameos I’ve squeezed into this last strip is barely a scratch on the tip of the iceberg of people I’d like to thank and acknowledge. To each and every one of you that have shared this journey with me, I give a sincere “Thank You”.
I have no intention of disappearing completely. I’m still working with Tiffany Ross on Abby’s Agency, and if you haven’t read my strip Saucer Seekers, please stop by and say “hello”. I’m also going to be focusing on some other, non comic, related projects. So watch for them and please let me know what you think.
And thus ends the adventures of Zortic, Zoie and Splink. At least for now. These characters have been such a central part of my life for so long, I can’t image leaving them alone for very long. In fact, their next adventure is already nagging at my mind. So even though there may not be any more weekly updates, don’t be a stranger. There’s sure more Zortic fun coming soon.

Great stuff Mark! You Rock!
Thanks Teri! It’s great to see you here!
Congratulations on 14 great years! I look forward to seeing Zortic & co. in their next adventure when it happens. 🙂
Thanks Tom! It’s reassuring to know that Station V3 is still going strong.
just like “altered beast” but in reverse, without zeus and no creepy end bosses 😉
I’ve never played Altered Beast. I’ll have to look that up now that I have more free time.
Back when the first run of Zortic stopped I told my entire history and relationship with Zortic. It was the first webcomic I read, I was sad when it ended, happy when it returned, and now I’m sad again 🙁
But… its rarely you get to enjoy a good webcomic twice, and this we have done now, and its even rarer a comic gets a proper ending, even less TWO of them! 🙂
Thanks for the run(s) Mark, its been great flying along with you, Zortic & Crew over the years, not to mention the places they have brought us (other webcomics, Star Pirates and beyond!)
We’ll never be strangers, and dont you ever be!
… Incidently, could you at one point give a confirmation of the cameos in speaking in this page? I, off course, recognize some, but… enquiering minds want to know 😉
Aw man, I’m not sure I can remember everyone I threw in there. There’s a couple of guys from Station V3, a couple from Melonpool, the guys from Jump Leads, Dash from Cosmic Dash and Lexx from Alien Dice. The guys from Saucer Seekers are in the long shot, so you can’t really see them.
Well, with a year’s delay I have updated with what you could tell me 🙂
Hi Mark! And very Happy Trails to Zortic, Zoe, and Splink! Like Hogan said, yours was one of the first webcomics I ever read, and I’ve followed it through thick and thin ever since. Congratulations on 14 years with these guys! (And thanks again for letting me give Zortic and Splink that cameo a few years back!)
I’m very glad to hear you’re not totally done with them, and I look forward to their next adventure!
May you Live Long and Prosper as well!
Aw thanks, I meant to slip Molly in there too. Sorry I forgot. Glad to have had you along for the ride though.
I’m sure I said this before, but it’s been a long, strange trip… and I’m very glad I could be a part of it. But all good things come to an end. Or sometimes, just a break in stride.
*returns the Vulcan salute* Live long and prosper, Mark. Here’s to the future.
Thanks Joseph, that really does mean a lot.
Sad to come to the end of a story, but glad to have had the pleasure of reading it. Looking forward to seeing whatever you do next!
Glad to have you along.
Zortic’s been a part of my weekly reading for a long time now, and it was a great ride. Good luck to whatever you try next, and thanks for all the fun!
Thank you very much, I’ve really appreciated your appreciation and your comments along the way. It’s been fun sharing it.
Zortic was always one of those comics I came back to read over and over, like Starslip Crisis and Dominic Deegan.
It’s good to see that while you’re done, it’s only “for now”, as you already have another adventure in mind. 😀
Looking forward to the future of Mr. and Mrs. Zortic.
Wow, that’s really putting Zortic among some honored company. Thank you for the high praise.
It’s deserved.
NOTE: Not all of the pages lead to the true final page (Scene 11) when you click on the Last link. Many still point to the penultimate page (Scene 10, which still has no Last link at all). Until today, I didn’t see that there was a new final page, and that was only because I went back to the First page and then to the Last page from there.
p.s. Looks better now. Perhaps the problem was on my end with a problem with the pages not refreshing properly for the revised content.
No. Problem is entirely on site’s end. Author is using aggressive cache which basically never refresh … unless you post comment.
