While I’ve often watched the Ancient Aliens TV series, it does raise many questions for me and this is one of them. There have been numerous examples of items that appear to be airplanes and rockets. But that doesn’t seem to align with current UFO sightings. And it seems pretty certain that it’s not the kind of technology required to travel between planets.
That point you bring up is certainly one of the weak points the Ancient Astronaut people don’t explain very well. If you can cross interstellar space, you are already beyond rocket technology.
There is another possibility; the propulsion systems used to traverse interstellar space could very well be something that has a great deal of speed with gradual acceleration, requiring something like a rocket for takeoff & in-atmosphere travel. One of the engine technologies considered a while ago was actually to have a nuclear warhead detonated under the ship. That might work well in outer space, but it would be somewhat hazardous to any planet you land on, requiring a second mode of propulsion. Maybe our modern UFOs are after a century or more of improvements in their technology, and the in-atmosphere rockets stuck around for a long time. After all, our cars still travel around on wheels — that technology has been around since forever. It just happens to work better than hovercraft technology.
That is a valid point, the rockets would just be “shuttle craft” that come from a mother ship which would have the space drives necessary to travel between stars.
