They just didn’t want to contaminate the information with the taint of journalistic nepotistic favoritism. Yeah, that’s it. It would have sounded bad being announced by one of the investigator’s wife. I mean, how much more biased a news media can you get than your own wife.
One thing this story arc also shows is some of the naiveté of Carl and Ron. They feel they have evidence compelling enough to get on mainstream media…or if they do, they would take it seriously.
Many Ufologists felt they had solid enough proof, and it didn’t really go anywhere. True, the Internet has helped such people get the word out, but the fragmentation means most of the time they are already preaching to the true believers as it were.

That is exactly right! Stuff that may seem like a really solid argument doesn’t tend to do too much for the general public.
On the other hand, “mainstream media” for ufologist may be slightly different than for certain other interest groups.
