Does everyone remember their astronomy? Do you remember what planetary retrograde motion is? Essentially it’s the way planets tend to move in the sky independently of the rest of the stars. They actually appear to change direction intermittently. Not really fast enough to be confused with a flying saucer, but definitely confusing for early astronomers.
